Abstract

In the context of the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum) implementation, classroom management must transform from reactive control into a proactive system that facilitates autonomy and activates Student Agency (voice, choice, ownership). Teachers at UPT SDN 23 Japing-Japing, Pangkep Regency, require integrated competencies to manage student diversity in line with Ki Hajar Dewantara's educational philosophy. Objective: This Community Engagement (PkM) program aims to transform teachers' classroom management competencies to realize the Three Pillars of an Effective Classroom: The Empowering, Inspiring, and Liberating Classroom. Method: The PkM was executed through an Interactive Workshop and Intensive Mentoring over two months, involving all school teachers (N=9). The workshop curriculum systematically covered the practice of Differentiated Instruction (Empowering Pillar), the implementation of Positive Discipline and co-creating Classroom Agreements (Liberating Pillar), and the integration of Social-Emotional Competencies (SEL) (Inspiring Pillar). Efficacy was measured using a comparison of pre-tests and post-tests, supported by analyses of teacher reflective journals and observation of teaching practices. Results: The PkM successfully increased the teachers' average conceptual and practical competence by 49.0% (from 58.8 to 87.6). Qualitatively, a paradigm shift occurred from authoritarian control to autonomy facilitation. Teachers demonstrated the ability to design differentiated lesson plans, replace rigid rules with participatory Classroom Agreements, and use SEL techniques to build a supportive emotional climate that triggers intrinsic motivation. The highest improvement was recorded in the Inspiring Classroom aspect (52.4%). Conclusion: This training was effective in transforming the classroom management practices of UPT SDN 23 Japing-Japing teachers, establishing a crucial foundation for the successful implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka. The establishment of an internal Teacher Learning Community is recommended to ensure the sustainability of this transformation.
